ABOUT WIKITAPAS |
|
| |
The origin of all. The Tapas. |
| |
| Consulting the emotionless definition given by “La Real Academia Española de la Lengua” (the Spanish Royal Academy) we can have an idea of what Tapa means: a small portion of food served with beverages. However, it means much more to us. Hence our explanation of how we have created Wikitapas. |
| |
| There is no right time to taste tapas, it does not matter. We can have them as appetizer, main dish, afternoon snack or dinner. For tapas, there are no limits, no particular towns or cities, seas or mountains, not even plains.
Everybody could personally define it in a way. A sportsman could say they are sports, a scientist would say they are a science, but a person who is passionate about gastronomy would say they are one of the best ways to get enjoyment. |
| • Whether in good company or with friends, your couple, or family, etc.
• When having a good conversation, whether about arts, sports, politics, culture, or even about the weather.
• At a place having a charm all of its own, only because you find so. It is likely due to something special – the place where you met, or it is just its decoration -
• Because it is the perfect match of a good wine or even a good beer.
• Because there are tapas which are really pure Art. Tiny amounts of food that have much to say and that are important enough to be at the level of the best dishes of the best restaurants.
• And I am at this right moment thinking about something so traditional such as Spanish croquettes or so exotic such as maki sushi; nothing more, nothing less. Which one are you thinking about? |
So, What is Wikitapas? |
First of all, we must say it is a social network of tapas. Sharing is the most important aspect in social networks. Based on this principle, we wanted these moments to be shared with everybody.
When we say everybody, we are being serious: not only because you will share with the entire world the tapas you have uploaded but also because those people enjoying tapas at this very moment somewhere in any of the five continents could similarly participate in the community.
We connect people, tapas and bars. That easy and complicate at the same time. This way, anyone can learn how to get to a particular bar, tavern, restaurant, etc. and enjoy whatever tapa was shared by the community or even become the first person in uploading it.
|
What can you do and how can you do it? |
| The most important thing here is that all that is possible to be done in Wikitapas, you will do it, and you will learn for sure that any other tapas you may find shall come from people like you that once enjoyed a tapa in good company at a bar. This is undoubtedly the best characteristic of the site. You can then:
• Upload pictures of your favorite tapas.
• Find tapas on the map and associate them to a wikibar.
• Post comments on other users ´tapas.
• Search tapas by geographical location, ingredient or wikibar.
• Have your own public page in wikitapas.com/tunick where you can share your wikitapas, wikibars and your activity.
• Personalize your profile, sharing whatever you want as regards your gastronomic passion.
• Interact with other social networks through your account.

Technology used |
| Wikitapas.com is an application which main novelty is the use of technology known as Internet Mapping that is implemented in the major Spanish gastronomic asset in the world: the TAPAS. Every TAPA uploaded to Wikitapas.com by every user is geo-located, that is, located through GPS coordinates and displayed by the Google Maps ™ free service, which has revolutionized the way in which we plan our movements. |

Pedro Álvarez Bretones |
zampus@wikitapas.com

|
Co-founder of Gastromedia and creator of wikitapas.com. Pedro´s nickname in wikitapas is Zampus (http://www.wikitapas.com/users/zampus). There is no better way to describe how his passion for gastronomy has grown from childhood: he visited frequently the Colegio Menor de Aracena (Huelva) to see his aunt Emilia cooking. He would jump at giving a hand in the cook stoves until he once suffered a burn on his right wrist, all because of his playing the wise guy. In the end, they all had a real feast worthy of admiration. Pedro would always be there in the kitchen when his mother cooked, and naturally, besides giving a hand, he would nibble and taste everything, whether cooked or raw (today he is a Japanese food lover, which is hardly surprising). His professional career was ever related to two things, Internet and gastronomy: co-founder of Columbus Internet Marketing & Consulting in 1997, co-founder of Teknobiz in 1999, co-founder of Ibergourmet in 2000 and Gastromedia in 2002. At that time in Gastromedia, he and his partners opened their own restaurant in Madrid, they created the greatest archive of Spanish gastronomy pictures, Gastrofotos.com, and they launched the publication of 8 books in 2009. Nowadays, and like never before, they evaluate the challenges of the Internet + Gastronomy tandem in which they want to make progress both at the personal and professional level.

Poli is married and has got two children. Cooking runs in his family: his father was a cook and his mother has always cooked very well at home. He has his roots in La Mancha, in Montiel to be precise, which he visits occasionally seeking the peace of its streets, eager to enjoy its gastronomy and golden dusks. His career, encouraged by his creativity, determination and brilliant skills is long and has given him good satisfaction. He started off in Barcelona working in several restaurants and finally arrived in Madrid where he worked along with Iñigo Pérez at “El Amparo” with the advice of Martín Berasategui. He also had the opportunity to cook at the Royal Household of HM the King and even opened his own restaurant in Madrid. Today, Poli, away from the commercial stoves, is partner and Head Chef of Gastromedia, which is a fascinating gastronomic communication project that has just begun. He is a reserved person, good listener, and kind-hearted. He is very fond of photography, African-American music, travelling, and eating slowly a good T-bone steak with a glass of wine (just one), thus helping his good humor rise. He loves going for a bike ride with his children, he misses the sea so much and having a good grilled fish at terraces for dinner.

Daniel is the Community Manager of Wikitapas, that is, the person who watches over the community wellbeing and also encourages the interaction among the community users through our software environment with other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
His career in the gastronomy sector began since he was very little. His passion for Arzak recipes led him to study at the Hotel School of Casa de Campo in Madrid after spending his time at the School of Political Sciences of Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Pretty soon he could see that gastronomy was his main subject of interest. Under the name of Pintxo he began writing for Directo al Paladar and soon after he created his personal blog El Monstruo de las Galletas. He then participated in different gastronomic projects of the gastronomy blogosphere, etc. If you have any question, you are welcome to contact him through his Wikitapas profile and e-mail.

Pablo is who has conducted the technical development of Wikitapas. He is in charge of the Esbupa.com software development. As very young in his home town of Cáceres, where he used Spectrum ZX, he already had passion for computers. As an adult, he decided to study Computer Engineering. After having different experiences in small companies and as an educator, he has been fully into the project esbupa.com since 2003. In esbupa.com he uses Microsoft tools to develop applications, which, according to him, they are the “most productive”.
